Red Wine Cake: Colombia #176
A rich, moist, chocolate cake with just a hint of wine, which intensifies the chocolate flavor. In Colombia it is known as Torta Negra.
Ingredients:
- 2 c. All-purpose flour
- 3/4c. Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1-1/4 tsp. Baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. Salt
- 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
- 1-3/4 c. Sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp.vanilla extract
- 1-1/4 c. Dry red wine
- Confectioner’s sugar for dusting
- Whipped cream, for serving
- Preheat oven 350F.. Flour 12 cup Bundt pan.
- Whisk flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt together.
- In a large bowl of mixer, beat the butter with sugar at medium high speed until fluffy, about 4 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, beating until incorporated.
- Add vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes.
- Working in 2 batches, alternately fold in the dry ingredients and the wine, until just incorporated.
- Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a rack; let cool completely.
- Dust the cake with confectioners’ sugar and serve with whipped cream.
Results: This is so easy and delicious! I didn’t make any adaptations.
Bottom Line: Keeper! Some tasters, from Colombia, said the versions they have had the cake had more of a wine flavor.
