Tres Leches :Spanish #169

Tres Leches: Spanish #169.                                                                                                                                     A Tres Leches cake is also known as a 3 milk cake. It’s a sponge cake soaked in 4 kinds of milk:               Evaporated milk, condensed milk, whole milk and heavy cream.  Make the day before you need it so that the milk is absorbed.

Cake:

  • 1-1/2 c. All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. Baking powder.
  • 1/2 c. Unsalted butter
  • 1 c. Sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. Vanilla
Milk Mixture:
  • 2 c. Whole milk
  • 1-14oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1-12 oz. can evaporated milk.
  • Topping:
  • 1-1/2 c. Heavy cream
  • 1 c. Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  1. Cake:   Preheat oven 350F. Grease and flour one 9x13 baking pan.
  2. Sift flour and baking powder together and set aside.
  3. Cream butter and 1 c. Sugar together until fluffy.
  4. Add egg and 1/2 tsp. Vanilla. Beat well.
  5. Slowly ( 1/4 c. At a time) add flour mixture to the butter mixture . Mix well.
  6. Pour batter into pan and bake 25-30 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and pierce cake several times with a fork.  Cool completely.
  8. Milk Mixture: Combine the whole milk, condensed milk, and evaporated milk together.  Pour over the cooled cake.
  9. Topping: Whip heavy cream and remaining 1 c. Sugar.
  10. Add remaining 1 tsp. Vanilla. Beat until thick.
  11. Spread over the top of the cake.
  12. Refrigerate cake until milk mixture is absorbed.
Results : Easy to make. I didn’t realize how long the milk mixture would take to be absorbed. There was a lot of milk. I ended up pouring some off.   Other than that it was fine. I made it for Halloween.
Bottom Line: Some people said it was dry, which was hard to believe. Other people said it was delicious. Go figure. I’ll keep this recipe on hand but probably won’t make it again unless someone ask for it.
