Birthday Cake for Jacob- #58b

Birthday Cake for Jacob- #58b

I just had to post this incredible cake. I made a basic yellow cake and butter cream frosting. I used color gel paste for the different colored frostings. My husband, you remember that dear sweet man who continues to help me and makes made dashes to the grocery store, well, he did the cutting of the shape and the Ninja Turtle. He got the idea on Pinterest. He then printed the picture, graphed it, laid it out, using toothpicks, on the cake and voila!!! I don't have the patience he has to be so detailed. He's a keeper. I can't wait for my grandson to see it.
I also made a small cake for him to share pre-birthday celebration and 18 mini-cupcakes. That's the small one with the J. My cake decorating skills are way below my husbands. This is his 4th amazing birthday cake he has created. He has Kipper the Dog, Curious George, and a T-Rex in his portfolio. I'll have to post those at another time. Unfortunately, he only does this for our grandchildren. Did I mention he's a keeper?

The recipe for the cake and frosting can be found in Post #23. I used a 12" round cake pan. I doubled the cake recipe. I did not double the frosting recipe and it was plenty. There was enough for the Ninja Turtle cake, small cake and 18 mini cupcakes. Needless to say, there was no frosting leftover.

The color gel paste is much better for dying frosting than the liquid. The colors are more deeper and vivid. However, a day later I still have a black tinge to my fingers.

Please share with anyone who has a child/adult who is into Ninja Turtles or just wants to make an incredible birthday cake.
