Applesauce Cake-Colonial New England #4

I know this isn't a country, however, I figure the colonist came from different countries. It's a stretch but I was asked to make another apple cake.

#4.  Applesauce Cake- Colonial New England
This is a moist cake using applesauce, flour and sugar as the primary ingredients.

The Cake:

1/2c. butter, room temperature
1c.  sugar
1c.  chilled applesauce
2c.  all-purpose flour
1tsp. baking soda
1tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4tsp. ground cloves
1/2c. raisins
1/2c. chopped walnuts

  1. Preheat oven 350F
  2. Grease and flour an 8" square pan.
  3. Using a mixer cream butter and sugar together.
  4. Add applesauce. (It will look like it's curdled. It's ok.)
  5. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon and ground cloves.
  6. Stir in raisins and walnuts.
  7. Pour into pan and bake about 40mins. or until done.
Results: It was good and easy to make, a one bowl cake. One person, my son, said it had too much of a clove taste. I didn't taste it as much.
We couldn't wait for it to cool so we cut into it as soon as I got it out of the pan.  I think it's best served warm.

Bottom Line: It was ok. If I needed something rather quick to serve I would make it again. However, having said that, I think they are so many more cakes that are better, such as the German Apple Cake-blog #3.
